Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Big and ripe on the nose, with scents of caramel, vanilla and red berries, but above all, alcohol. If you are less sensitive to high alcohol levels than we are, you may like this flashy Syrah more than we did.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark as a Syrah, and with the weight of a big red, this wine shows massively ripe aromas and flavors of meat, blackberries, coffee and oak, and rich, gentle tannins. It’s a very good wine but it doesn’t really have the delicacy you expect in a Pinot Noir.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Pinot is pretty extracted, but the flavors are addictively good, offering a cornucopia of raspberries, cherries, blackberries, tangerines and cola, with complex nuances of sassafras, orange Pekoe tea, cola and dusty spices. It’s a little soft, but silky and rich in tannins, a classic Pisoni Vineyard Pinot Noir.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big, extracted, jammy Santa Lucia Pinot. It oozes cherries, black raspberries, mocha and smoky char, but is dry and rich in sweet, ripe tannins, with a silky smooth texture. This is an immature wine that needs a couple years to come together.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Delicious in raspberries, cherries, sassafras, cola, orange blossom tea and vanilla, with a beautifully silky texture, this single-vineyard Pinot comes from low-yielding vines in the central part of the appellation. It’s a little too soft for cellaring, but offers solid pleasure now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big Pinot Noir, explosive in cherry and raspberry fruit, but no mere fruit bomb. The tannins are thick and interesting, there’s plenty of zesty acidity, and there’s something minerally and tangy from the soil. Drink this wine now and over the next 6–8 years, as it gradually ages.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The pedigree of this wine is impeccable: grapes from Rosella’s, Garys’ and Pisoni vineyards. The wine is soft, silky and captivating, in a drink-me-now style that emphasizes pure, luscious raspberry, cherry and mocha fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lots of charm. Once the sulfur blows off, you get ripe red and black cherry, vanilla, oak and spice notes, wrapped in a silky texture with bright, crisp acids. Notable for its balanced and long finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big, sturdy Pinot. Not especially elegant or transparent, but it sure is rich, offering massive waves of cherries, Dr. Pepper cola, chocolate and spices. Probably at its best soon.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Muscular and broad, a massive wine packed with fruity power, but lacking some finesse. Floods the palate with the essence of red cherries, with delicious, pastry tastes of baked tart, raspberry nut granola, honey and red licorice. Drink now for freshness and vivacity.
