This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz is an all-around winner. Cinnamon spice, dark berry and pepper on the nose creates a complex aromatic character, while the combination of earthy, woody flavors are complemented by touches of lush mocha. This will pair beautifully with red meat dishes and robust cheeses.

A sprightly red blend—light, tangy and flavorful. Sour cherry fruit abounds, accented by leather, toast, cocoa and earth. Quite dry and slightly tart on the close.

A touch green and herbal with notes of black plum, black currant leaf, a touch of pepper and used coffee grinds. Medium weight in the mouth with assertive tannins and a sweet smoke-infused finish.

This blend of five red grapes has been the hallmark wine for KWV for 50 years. This rendition has foresty aromas mixed with earthy, peppery scents. Round and soft, with tannins that are smooth. Given time, this will open up into something special. Luscious and rewarding, and all for a song. Best Buy.

This wine is a straightforward package of mulch, sweet dried herbs, anise, leather, cedar and blackberry. The consistency and style of the fruit are very likeable, as is the ever-so-light herby char on the finish. Has good tannins, but doesn’t delve too deep. —K.F.

The bouquet of this Cabernet-Shiraz-Merlot-Ruby Cabernet blend shows intriguing berry, mint, anise, earth and tobacco-herb aromas. Bright acidity keeps the berry fruit lively, and the finish is long and earthy. Good now, and should improve over the next two-plus years.
