A perfumed, jammy wine, full of flavor. There is also a more serious element to this wine from the Hall's first vintage in their own winery. The tannin dryness, ripe wood flavors and cassis flavors suggest good aging, as well as good food pairing.

This could be an impressive wine, but the overwhelming wood element makes it hard to taste the fruit. There are just hints of ripe spice and creamy apples, and the aftertaste is just off dry. Imported by Cape Classics.

Heavy aromas of well-oiled leather and pepper obscure fruit, while the plum and dark fruit flavors are overpowered by leather with a hint of Band-Aid. Nice tannins and moderate acidity give the wine a smooth feel.

A mild nose of dark berries and violets uncovers grilled meat, mineral, and finely oaked berry fruits. The structure is tightly wound, acidity wrapping tannins in a silky feel. Lacks the power of some other Syrahs, but a fine wine nevertheless. Imported by Cape Classics.

Earthy tobacco, smoke and spice on the nose and a fruit-forward palate make this expressive Shiraz an attractive cohort to smoked meat dishes and cheese assortments. The wine has a backbone of toasted oak and a smooth character.

Rated the top Chenin in South Africa in 2005, this is a serious but delicious wine. It has a toasty character from wood fermentation and aging, but a character which does not dominate the sweet fruit. Spice and honey come from the tropical flavors, but the final taste is of crispness and acidity.
