Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A very fruity wine with toast and maturity. It also has a creamy texture, but the finish is spoiled by some unbalanced sweetness. Imported by Moët Hennessy USA.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shot through with minerality, almost flinty, this wine shows its vintage well. The red fruit element is now only a small part of what is now a fully mature wine. But the steely edge and tannic structure show that it will age, probably 10 years or more.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a blend of Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%), drawn largely from the 1999 vintage, with some ’98 and ’96 added. It’s fresh and light, very delicate, with a creamy, soft mousse and flavors of pineapple and yellow plum. Finishes soft, picking up hints of green apple.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Like the NV brut, this is based on wines from the 1999 vintage, but from only premier cru vineyards. It’s 45% Chardonnay, the balance Pinot Noir, with almost 20% of the Pinot made as red. The Chardonnay adds a lively, lime-like quality to the soft, berry-fruited Pinot Noir. A plump, easy-to-like rosé.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The palest of onion skin pink colors is certainly the freshest part of this mature wine. The flavors are full of mature toast and will certainly appeal to those who like their Champagnes with bottle age. With the fruit less prominent, it is left to the richness and great style of the wine to carry the day.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A beautifully matured wine, all toast and rich vanilla with a touch of currants still there, suggesting the wine has more time to develop. This is how mature Champagne should be, and is a good reminder of how different it is from the fruitier wines we are more used to.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rich, toasty, mature, this important Champagne is all those things. It’s certainly mature for a 1998 vintage, which means it would be delicious to drink now. But the ripeness, allied to the serious acidity and wood structure, do suggest that it’s likely to age more.

Complex toasty, earthy aromas. Sharply drawn, well-dimensioned lemon and herb flavors. Long spicy finish with sweet & sour flavors. Flavorful, and lots of personality.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Ruinart, one of Champagne’s oldest brands, produces a fresh, delicate style of non-vintage, with a soft mousse and good bottle age toast and yeast. The wine is edged with citrus, giving a fresh, apéritif style of Champagne.

Nutty aromas, and a slight mustiness mark the nose. Almond, spice and earth flavors on the palate, medium mouthfeel and finish, but overall it seems a bit tired.
