A gem. Meaty, bacon fat nose, strikingly clear, purple-hued colors, and sweet, seductive fruit. What more can one ask of an $18 Syrah? This is elegant, strong and supple, with a long life ahead of it.

This is a single-vineyard Syrah, from a Wahluke Slope vineyard, and it has plenty of grapy, gamy, juicy fruit. Clean and light-footed, with bracing acid and sweet/tangy fruit, this is a high-wire wine made for a big, fat, meaty burger or steak.

From a two acre plot in Walla Walla, this lush, elegant wine shows Kurt Schlicker’s deft, complex approach to winemaking. 100% barrel fermented, it clocks in at 14% alcohol and tastes of clean fruit, with light hints of buttered toast and toasted nuts. Elegant and sophisticated, it shows a deft touch with the wood.

This is Sauvignon Blanc with a 14% blast of Viognier; the combination is vivid and bracing, like a dash through a cold mountain spring. All stainless, no malolactic. It’s cool as ice, clear and leesy, and the tart fruit is edged with citrus rind flavors, a nice mix of orange, lemon and lime.

Yet another outstanding effort from Rulo, this appealing Chardonnay marries pretty peach flavors to a mix of spices from 100% French oak barrel fermentation. Cinnamon and other Asian spices, along with barrel toast, provide a nice counterpoint to the ripe fruit.

An attractive wine that takes clean, precise fruit and carefully showcases it in a very pretty, balanced, concise, elegant style. This is not a blockbuster, but it is a beautifully structured wine which shows a masterful sense of craft. Hints of butter, lemon, citrus, floral, honey are all suggestively layered together.

This wine really should cost more. It shows good, sweet, complex fruit flavors mixing red fruits and hints of leaf and spice; it has a bit of oak that doesn’t get in the way, and it packs plenty of power without being too alcoholic or obliterating the nuances.

Very fresh and clean, like a drink of fresh air. There is a slight saltiness to it, a pleasing lightly bitter flavor of citrus rind; good presence, persistence, and length, all in a light, food-friendly style that has plenty of crisp, lively yeastiness.
