Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
In an attempt to ramp things up, Rutini has a wine that’s loaded with candied black fruit, tire rubber and a distinct green streak. The palate is all blueberry and sweetness, but it’s short, green and terribly basic. And the feel and finish are narrow and scratchy, respectively. Not one of Rutini’s better efforts.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Roasted dark fruit aromas form a generic opening, while the palate is perfectly acceptable even with some scratchiness. The flavors are your basic berries and pepper, while the finish is dry and toasty. Good but regular, plain and simple.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Opens with hard, rubbery, leathery aromas. In the mouth, it’s thick and chewy with black fruit but also an herbal edge. There’s depth and plenty of oak here, and it finishes sweet and relatively smooth. Starts rough, improves in the middle, and then finishes fairly well.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fairly bland on the nose, with only a pinch of mild peach and candle wax. The palate is full but wholly generic in terms of flavors: look for sweet pineapple in front of a soft, almost cloying finish. Drink now.

Rutini Chardonnay - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A big step up from the prior year; the bouquet is spicy, dry, minerally and offers attractive dried flower aromas. The mouthfeel is pure, easygoing and slightly creamy, while the flavors suggest dried raspberry, plum and vanilla for sweetness. Toasty and dry on the finish; elegant for Argentinean PN.

Rutini Pinot Noir - 2009

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Heavily roasted and charred on the nose, with elements of roasted nuts and tire rubber. The palate is full and chunky, but with spiky acids that illuminate a salty character on the otherwise berry flavor profile. Finishes heavy and baked.

Rutini Malbec - 2009

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Neutral smelling other than a hint of peach and vanilla on the bouquet. Comes across a bit heavy and warm, but not too much so. Flavors of soft melon are appealing, and the finish is fleshy. Drink now before it loses its spunk.

Rutini Torrontés - 2010

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Neutral on the nose except for mild hay and/or straw aromas. The palate is a bit weighty for being so short on flavor. Speaking of which, the wine is clean but tastes hollow, with only sparse flavors of peach and nectarine registering.

Rutini Chardonnay - 2010

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Solid, familiar berry and plum aromas carry some sweetness and vanilla. The palate, however, is fairly acidic and tight, with a piercing center and snappy, almost tart flavors of raspberry and red plum. Crisp and sheering on the finish.

Rutini Malbec - 2008

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Neutral on the nose except for some oak and floral notes. The palate is fleshy and a bit hollow in feel, with peach and sweet, almost sugary melon and pineapple flavors. Finishes like a melon ball, but at least the mouthfeel is good and not flabby.
