Fruity, oaky and simple, with tangerine, vanilla, buttered popcorn and smoky flavors. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is one of the few Orange Muscats that’s bone dry, although it has rich orange, pineapple and vanilla flavors. With crisp acidity and a firm, steely minerality, it’s a joy to drink.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Too heavy for a rosé, with black cherry, cola and leather flavors that lack the delicacy and zest you want in a blush wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
It sure is ripe and rich, in line with the wonderful vintage, with a wealth of cherry, licorice, mocha and smoky oak flavors. On the other side are a certain roughness and semi-sweet finish that detract from elegance.

Clarksburg is in the Delta, and grows decent whites due to the Bay breezes that reach this far inland. This wine is fruity and floral, with a nice apricot finish that’s dry and crisp.

Saddleback Viognier - 2003

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and heady. Aromas are superripe, with blackberry jam, cola and prune preserves. Tastes similarly overripe, even hot, with raisins, molasses, and a boatload of oriental spice. Alcohol is 14.5%. An eccentric wine that’s not for everyone.

When you measure this against Testarossa’s other single-vineyard wines, this release is earthy and lean, with citrus and tobacco flavors. Like all the rest, it’s quite oaky. Doesn’t share the rich opulence and hedonism of the others, although it’s certainly a good wine.

Saddleback Chardonnay - 2001

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Made in a drier, leaner and more tannic style than your typically ripe Oakville Cab. Shows currant and cedar flavors grounded with dried herbs and tobacco. Pair with flank steak with sautéed wild mushrooms.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dry and harsh, almost old-fashioned in its tannic astringency, with a green kick of mint. Relieved by a streak of black cherries and cedar. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A plush, firm style that holds back a bit, yet still reveals plenty of dark black cherry, plum, cassis, licorice, spice and herb flavors. It’s framed in classy oak and ripe tannins, finishing with moderate length on the finish.
