This wine captures the particular spicy, citrus character of Wahluke Slope Syrah. Though it doesn’t quite get there texturally, it starts off well with a burst of smoked meat and high-toned cherry fruit. There’s a streak of mint also, and that, plus the deep, almost black hue, suggests that more concentrated fruit will follow.

Good, dark color and a bouquet mixing black currant, black cherry and peppermint mocha starts this wine off well. It’s got plenty of acid, and seems quite young and compact at the moment. The juicy, berry flavors are sappy and crisp, the tannins ripe and well-managed; if there is a criticism it is simply that this is monolithic.

Complex aromas open into detailed black fruits, with broad streaks of coffee and accents of iron. The fruit fades into some fairly thick tannins, suggesting that a juicy steak would be the right companion for this sturdy wine.

This pleasant blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling has the flesh, the fruit and the bracing acidity to be a fine summer sipper. Peaches and herb (not the singing duo!) dominate, with a fresh, fleshy finish.

Mostly Syrah, the rest Merlot, this sports a chocolaty nose and peppery, pretty red fruits. The two grapes complement each other well, lending texture and balance to a quaffable red that overdelivers for the price.

A good reflection of the vintage, this is meaty and concentrated, with dark purple fruits swathed in cinnamon, coffee and dark chocolate. Tasted more than four years after the vintage, it was still youthful and fresh, with a hard tannic shell.

A nicely structured Merlot from the Wahluke Slope, with aromas of sandalwood and blueberries. The mixed berry flavors run into tart pie cherries, sprinkled with a little pepper (from a small amount of Cabernet Franc in the blend). Well crafted and balanced.
