Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Forward, medium-style Cabernet with clean cassis and cherry flavors, some light herb and a firm mineral streak in the tight, chalky finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Another excellent Merlot from Sandhill, though not as big as the previous vintage. This is more loose, more open, with flavors of cherry and raspberry out front. Firm acids and the stiff, mineral finish that characterizes Red Mountain grapes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Classic scents of cassis fruit, laced with leaf and herb, lead into a firm, confident, balanced wine that is elegantly structured for the long haul. A cellar candidate; this could go 15–20 years. Cellar Selection. —P.G.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A new producer on Red Mountain debuts with a fine Merlot, showing the tight, taut profile of the appellation. Black cherry and cassis, anchored to an iron/mineral foundation, with some bitter chocolate in the balanced, muscular finish.

Always one of the better New World Merlots; sweet and rich nose very Merlot, buttery but with a shot of black pepper, black plums, smoke and chocolate; ripe and rich, loaded with fruits and berries, black plums, good tannic backbone; nicely balanced citrus tones; continues to be the industry standard in my book. Sandhill “Red Mountain” Columbia Valley Merlot - 2001

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Although not ordinarily a fan of new World merlot, this one is quite good; clean and spicy nose, ripe sweet fruit, tar, acid, lemons and pepper; clean and fresh on the palate; lots of fruit in this wine, a bit monolithic, but has a certain depth of flavor that makes it interesting; there is plenty of sweetness, but it is balanced with acidity and fresh, clean tannins; the wine lacks a certain statement, though, and ends up pleasant but somewhat vague; better than most of the California versions though.
