Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Here’s a distinctive ripasso with a thick, dark appearance and contrasting notes of milk chocolate, spice, dried currant, leather and church incense. The wine delivers some bitter cherry followed by smooth texture and finely polished tannins. Imported by Laird & Company.

Pretty neutral-smelling, with just hints of Golden Delicious and melon on the nose. But it’s a bit bland and light on the palate—a well-made if somewhat innocuous white that finishes clean and crisp.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Santa Sofia is a stellar producer with landmark cellars that stand as a proud ambassador for Valpolicella winemaking tradition. This wine is redolent of spice, smoked meat, rum cake, leather and loads of chewy black fruit and prune.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aged in large oak casks, this fresh Ripasso makes good use of minimal wood intervention that comes forth as light spice and cinnamon. The core of this wine, however, consists of pulsing black fruit and mature cherry.

Raisins, plum skins and root beer make for an attractive ripasso-style nose. Dried cherries and chocolate carry the palate, which is generally smooth and silky in terms of feel. The finish is fairly delicate and understated, but long

Raisins, ash, dried cherry and baking spices create a delicious bouquet that is backed up by a smooth palate that delivers prune, coffee and mocha. The texture is great and so is the interplay of smooth but firm tannins and lively but hidden acidity.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The complex nose features tobacco, raisin, rum liqueur and apple peel. The mouthfeel is racy courtesy of healthy acids, and delivers ripe red fruit. Substantial yet fine-grained tannins give the finish a necessary edge. In addition, latent bitter chocolate and coffee flavors add to the overall character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Light and color and a bit dull in the nose. Dig deep for some floral notes and also some leather and orange peel. But there isn’t a whole lot of ripe fruit; it’s mostly lean strawberry and dried cherry.

Starts out sly and smooth and gains complexity as it opens. The bouquet is classy, with scents of black cherry, fine leather and spice. Perfectly balanced on the palate, and sporting a classic mix of cherry, plum and vanilla flavors. Feels great at all stops, with some chocolate to the ever-lasting finish. Can drink now or hold for up to 10 years.

Intriguing and complex, with alluring aromas of campfire, citrus peel, cinnamon and cedar. Offers fine fruit and highly commendable balance, as the palate is juiced with acidity, cherry and raspberry flavors, and more. Smoky on the finish, with a bit of sweet caramel.
