Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rugged and lusty, this is an old-fashioned Zin. It’s dry and hot, brawny in tannins, wild in briary, brambly, raisiny fruit, and with piercing acidity to cut through olive oil, cheese, and rich, fatty meats.

Dull and medicinal, with LifeSaver candy cherry and raspberry flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Almost like an Aussie Shiraz, this is a big, bold, jammy wine, full-bodied in ripe blackberries, cherries, mulberries, milk chocolate and spicy pepper flavors. It’s technically dry, but so filled with fruity essence, it has a honeyed finish.

Just beautiful, showing Alexander Valley Zin at its best. Dry and full-bodied, it’s enormously flavorful in spicy wild berries, with a cherry liqueur smoothness. But it’s not high in alcohol, and is thoroughly balanced and elegant.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very rich and extracted, and much more full-bodied than Sausal’s “Family” Zin, with which it was co-released. This is one to cellar for a few years, to let things come together. Just massive in chocolate, berry jam and pepper spices, wrapped into firm, refined tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Soft and still fairly tannic at the age of four–plus, with the herbal taste that often marks Alexander Valley Cabs. Yet there’s enough blackberry, currant and cocoa richness to satisfy. Should develop over the next six years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A very nice wine for drinking now with roasts and Italian fare. It’s a light- to medium-boded wine, marked by cherry, red currant, bacon and spice flavors brightened by a bite of acidity.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Very rich, extracted and soft in tannins and acids, a melt-in-your-mouth Zin with almost sweet flavors of milk chocolate, crushed ripe cherries, licorice, caramelized wood and oodles of black pepper. Should develop over the next 4–6 years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There’s a slight gaminess to this wine that makes it more interesting than your average Zin. Also some black-pepper and licorice notes that add complexity. A solid effort at a fair price. Best Buy.

Here’s a big, bold, brawny Zin, rustic and earthy, the kind that will go down easily with barbecue. It’s powerful in briary wild blueberries, with a cocoa finish and lots of peppery spice.
