Very fruity and ripe. Hits strong with forward, jammy cherry, rhubarb, fresh herb and sweet oak, and tastes racy and savory. Ultimately, though, it’s a bit simple in structure.

A likable wine with a pretty ruby color and great balance and harmony. Ripe, bold, berry fruit and spice wrapped in a velvety soft package. A good example of Paso Zin from the cooler part of the appellation. Only 329 cases made.

Tasting a bit tight and candied now, this Pinot might just need a little time in the bottle to knit together. It has that jammy, young wine taste of fresh cherries and raspberries, and mouthwatering acidity. Give it until mid-2009.

Notable for sheer deliciousness, the way you can’t stop at one sip but want more. Soft and gentle, with just a touch of crispness and oak tannins, this Pinot’s flavors star. Raspberries, cherries, cocoa, red licorice, cola, vanilla all mingle into some fabulously sweet confection that manages to finish thoroughly dry.

Here’s the kind of Pinot that drives the French nuts. With almost no effort, California can ripen the grapes to produce these lush, ripe and, frankly, delicious cherry, raspberry, cocoa, anise and pepper flavors, while maintaining a delightfully crisp, silky mouthfeel.

From 1,400-foot vineyards that are 90 years old. A huge, extracted Zin full of massive fruit. At 16.4% alcohol and 0.9% residual sugar, it’s almost Port-like, with raisin and plum liqueur notes.

Good Zins from this appellation are not common, which is too bad, considering how fine this one is. The fully ripened berry and spice fruit is married to intricate, lacy tannins, and the wine is dry. Despite the big flavors, it has an airy, feathery quality, anchored in crisp acidity.

The wine is pale in color and very light in body, neither of which is a bad thing. You want some delicacy in a Pinot Noir. The drawback is in a candied simplicity to the flavors, which are of Lifesaver cherries and raspberries.

This is bright and smooth, with forward berry fruit and just the right amount of chocolaty oak. Supple and tangy, with a lip-smacking finish.
