Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Bordeaux blend offers satiny, silky smooth and chocolaty flavors. The fruit shows plum, black cherry, blackberry and hints of prune, with an underpinning of herb. The finish leads into black tea, sweet and ripe tannins that have just enough spine to extend the flavors into a full minute.

Sweet toasty oak starts the wine out with a strong streak of butterscotch; the fruit slides in around the sides, adding cherry and tobacco flavors. It’s very smooth and very seductive, forward and lush, with a soft, satiny finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a thoroughly modern style: 100% French oak, Dijon Clone 75, plenty of lees contact. The yeasty nose introduces a very rich, mouthcoating sensation of butterscotch. Those leesy, creamy, butterscotch flavors surround the palate; the green apple fruit carries a bit of crisp authority and keeps the structure firm. Long, smooth and very sensual without being too tiring.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The blend is 56% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Cab Franc, showing lots of new oak at this early stage. Winemaker Richard Funk has a nice touch with this fruit, bringing the flavors out brightly, with clean, crisp edges and just the right amount of oak.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A wonderful blend of Pepper Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon and Seven Hills Merlot and Cab Franc. This wine showcases the generous, open style of the wines made from Walla Walla fruit in 2002. Fruit flavors are rich and full, and wrap the palate in luscious layers. Ripe strawberries, cherries and cassis mingle with judicious amounts of new oak. Plump but not fat, it’s a lovely bottle to sip and savor.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Inky in color and full in body, this ultradark, muscular Syrah reveals a trace of alcoholic heat alongside firm acids and tannins. Tight plum, earth and vanilla flavors need a couple of years to unwind and become more approachable.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Spicy, slightly volatile, with smooth plum and chocolate flavors across the palate. There’s some lift from the VA, and then the silky tannins carry it along for a very pleasant ride. It just lacks the extra bit of depth that would ramp it up to the next decile.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A thoroughly delicious Bordeaux blend, complete and silky smooth. Clear and ripe fruit tastes of a fine mix of plum, spicy cherry and hints of tart cranberry. The subtle use of oak puts a chocolaty coup de grace on top, while hints of tobacco and tea add interest to the lingering finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The Red Mountain fruit, from the Ranch at the End of the Road Vineyard, is solid, juicy and spicy with pleasing highlights of citrus and pepper. Fresh and crisp, the snappy mouthfeel sports tart cranberry fruits showing plenty of spice. This is a fine effort, clean and not fussy, with a moderate 14.2% alcohol.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Dijon clone Chard opens with light floral aromas and then fills the palate with rich, mouth-coating fruit; a mix of green apple, melon and white peach. The acids buoy it and continue through a clean finish. At this stage it is not showing the oak influence as much as the previous vintage; this seems lighter, more elegant and quite pretty.
