A huge Zin, filled with ripe flavors ranging from wild forest berries to stone fruits to pepper and tobacco. The most notable feature is the tannins, which are rugged and fierce. This dry wine makes your tongue stick to the roof of your palate.

Quite dark for a rosé, and very extracted, with a thick cherry taste that’s fine for a red but a bit heavy and dense for a blush.

From a 75-year-old white field blend. The winemaker has put no oak at all on this wine in order to preserve its intense flavors. They include melon, fig and a Chinese sweet and sour sauce taste that make this dry, crisp wine distinctive. Try with roast pork with a sweet apricot glaze.

Marches to the beat of good Cabernet with its cassis and chocolate aromas and flavors, lush, complex tannins and overlay of finely smoked French oak. But the persistant undertow of wild, brambly berry and the peppery finish finger it as Zin.

From an old-field blended vineyard with all sorts of varieties, the wine has a real sense of style and place. It’s not modernly elegant, but it is a true representative of old-time Sonoma red wine. It’s like drinking history.
