Balance, elegance and varietal purity mark this wine. It’s delicious and zesty, filled with pineapple, pear, green apple, honey and oak, wrapped into a texture of buttercream and with a long, spicy finish. What a great price.

A pretty, polished Merlot, medium bodied and dry, for drinking now. Shows cherry, blackberry and currant flavors, with a kiss of smoky oak, and feels smooth through the finish.

A rich, oaky, fruity Chardonnay with lots of tropical fruit flavors. Pretty standard, but the price is pretty good for this style.

Part of the Sonoma Cask series, this is a full-bodied, typical Sonoma Chard with some pine and green-apple aromas. Nicely balanced, with some toasted oak on the moderate, citrus-tinged finish. Plenty of ripe fruit here, and warmth. Overall not too complex or layered, but a lot to like.

The aromas are dense and meaty, bordering on ultra ripe. It’s yet another sweet, extracted Russian River wine, one that followers of Burgundy and Oregon might struggle with, but one that fans of big, bulky reds should enjoy.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Extreme lees-aging seems to dominate this wine. Those mealy, yogurty aromas and flavors persist into the finish. The aroma is also marked strongly by mint and sage that may come from the oak. Otherwise, ripe apple, peach fruit and dense oak are present. But the wine’s eccentricity is its most notable feature. —S.H.

Deep plummy, black-cherry nose. Tightly packed;very positive flavors of dark berry, coffee and cocoa, with licorice and earthy notes. Very nice mouthfeel an dfinish with even, velvety tannins. Medium in weight, it's drinkable now yet will age well.

Mainly from 120-year old vines, this wine showcases Zin in one of its aspects. ItÕs bone dry, and modern tannin management makes it softly drinkable. From the middle palate through the finish, sumptuous, spicy fruit takes over. It lacks CabernetÕs glamor, but captures ZinÕs rough and ready personality perfectly. Even at this price, itÕs a good value.

Spice, cherries, fat, coffee and toast fill the nose. Beautiful depth and balance. Fat and fleshy on the palate, rich and full through the finish, with plenty of cherry, coffee and toast flavors. Has the depth and power to improve over time.

This is a dark, tannic wine that’s slightly unbalanced. It seems to have some residual sugar, making any sort of aging iffy. If not, it still seems sweet.
