Vigneto La Villa opens with ripe, pulpy fruit and fresh aromas of plum, blackberry, crushed mineral and exotic spice. The wine takes on a ruby color and there is slight browning on the edges. The mouthfeel shows great balance between the fresh acidity and drying tannins. A Marc de Grazia selection; various American importers.

Extraordinarily rich and complicated in flavors, this wine comes from vineyards that are at least 50 years old. It’s dry and spicy, with textbook Zin notes of wild berries and currants, but also exotic minerals that come from the soil. Yes, the alcohol is high, but that is the signature of Seghesio’s marvelous Zinfandels.

Zinfandel isn’t ordinarily a wine you want to age, but this dry, tannic bottle will improve in the cellar. Made from Seghesio’s estate vineyard in the southern Alexander Valley, it’s amazingly rich in mulberry, currant, spice and mineral flavors, with beautiful tannins and perfect acidity. It’s gorgeous now, with a few hours of decanting, but will show increasing interest over the next four to six years.

A fleshy, earthy, yet very dry wine, with cherry, cranberry and rhubarb aromas and flavors cradled in sweet oak. There's a pretty, layered texture of soft velvet, and a spine of crisp acidity for balance. Not an anger, but made for immediate pleasure.

A little sweet and oaky, with powerful blackberry jam, brown sugar, caramel and cola flavors. The tannins are rich and wonderful.

A flowery, honeyed wine, framed by moderate toasty oak. Fruity, with apple and peach flavors and riper notes of tropical fruits. High acidity makes it zesty and clean. There’s a trace of sugar on the finish.

Smells exciting, with blackberry, tobacco and chocolate aromas and an elusive, spicy-earthy note, with nuances of vanilla and char from oak. In the mouth, it turns rather hot, although the flavors are delicious. If you don’t mind high alcohol, this is a fine Sonoma Zin.

This delicate wine has flavors of cherries, Chinese tea and tobacco. It is dry and acidic; the tannins assert themselves immediately, especially on the finish where they turn tough and sticky. It is not an opulent wine but it’s a complex, layered one, dry and tart. Will probably be at its best with food such as roast duck with a cherry sauce, or Chinese barbecued pork.

From an increasingly popular varietal, this bottling brims with figgy, lemony, spicy scents. The flavors are bold and electric, with stinging white peach and citrus notes highlighted by high acidity that jolts the palate. It’s very dry, and the finish is clean and spicy. Enjoy this with a wide range of foods, or by itself.

Lots of oak along with tobacco, menthol and cherry fruit. A very compact, intense core of black fruit leads into a long chocolaty, spicy finish that tastes a lot like a cup of espresso. A very good, deeply layered wine.
