A heavy dose of orange and lemon leads the nose of this affordable Sauvignon Blanc from coastal South Africa, but it’s slightly heavy-handed and lacks some of the acidity that gives this variety its lift. The mouthfeel is viscous and needs a lighter, fresher touch, but in general, the wine is good and displays a unique character. Imported by Hemingway & Hale.

Fragrant, tropical fruit on the nose and a combination of sweet and exotic flavors makes this appealing rosé an easy, everyday wine that will pair well with spicy dishes and grilled poultry.

This is a great example of how an affordable wine can still offer quality and character. A compelling nose of tobacco, berry and spice is followed by a play of plum and clean minerality. Balanced and slightly restrained, the wine will pair well with heartier foods like steak or stew.

Serengeti continues to produce good quality wines at a friendly price and this Pinotage continues the tradition. The nose is peppery, spicy and a little spikey in the true Pinotage fashion, but on the palate, the wine is prettier. It’s soft and rounded with nice red berry and spice components that finish in a soft but lingering manner.

Veers a bit too far into the vegetal lane for this reviewer, although others may find it simply herbal. Passion fruit and citrus elements lose out to green pepper and asparagus notes. Short finish. Imported by Hemingway and Hale.

This simple wine has straightforward Beaujolais-like aromas, with grapy flavors and sour lemon flavors on the finish. Imported by Hemingway & Hale.

A trifle soft, but otherwise very drinkable, this medium-bodied Shiraz boasts ample red raspberry and vanilla flavors sure to please most drinkers. Shows more elegance and better integration of components than many of its brethren, ending on a supple, harmonious note. Imported by Hemingway and Hale.
