Blueberry, fennel seed, forest berry, rhubarb with a slightly lactic, sour note. Full and creamy in the mouth and tangy but not extremely tannic or long. Because this wine does not overwhelm your taste buds, it has great food pairing potential. Imported by Martin Scott Wines.

Sometimes, you discover one of those rare Brunellos that offers a really sweet-smelling bouquet followed by a drying mouthfeel. This is one of those wines. The bouquet is characterized by Christmas spice, cinnamon and mature cherry. The close is elegant and polished.

We’ve noticed traces of volatility in past Sesti Brunellos, but the 2004 vintage smells polished and pristine. Aromas of black fruit, spice and cured meat are intact, generous and are delivered with uplifting force and buoyancy. This helps contribute to the general intensity of the wine and the supple nature of its mouthfeel.

Apple juice, cider and mature pineapple come to mind and make it difficult to tastes the aromatic characteristics usually associated with Brunello di Montalcino. The mouthfeel is lean and compact and ends on a crisp note.

A distinct barnyard note does not distract from ripe black cherry, leather, tobacco and cedar wood and in fact integrates well within the whole. The mouthfeel is silky and smooth, and there’s a playful, clove-like sensation on the finish. Imported by Martin Scott Wines.

Although this Brunello is from the newly released 2005 vintage, it has aromas and textures that remind you of a wine that is older still. There are sophisticated undertones here of smoke and licorice that peep up from behind candied fruit and black currants. There are also nicely integrated tones of exotic spice and mesquite wood at the back.
