A good and inexpensive Chard. It has plenty of peach, apple and pear flavors and oaky vanillins, and a creamy texture. Finishes with some apparent sweetness.

A very nice everyday sort of Sauvignon Blanc. It packs a lot of flavor into a low price. Especially nice is the ripe pear, fig and citrus midpalate.

This is an easy-drinking and affordable Merlot of a kind flooding the market now. It has ripe flavors of blackberries and cherries and is dry, with good weight and some complexity. Finishes with a youthful bite of acid.

Rare to find a California Cab this good at this price, but that’s the benefit of the economy. Filled with blackberry jam flavors and rich, ripe tannins, and fully dry. There’s even a coating of oak.

Pop the cork, and the grapey perfume floods the room: Blackberry preserves, dark chocolate, plum pudding and smoky vanilla aromas. In the mouth, it’s a dense, young and jammy wine, with huge berry flavors, but very dry and balanced.

If only all the inexpensive California Syrahs could be this good. Sure, it’s a little simple, but it’s varietally true, with blackberry fruit, peppery spice and some herbal overtones. Round and reasonably full in the mouth, with enough tannins on the finish to stand up to fatty burgers.
