Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
With polished black currant, cherry, coffee and toasty oak flavors, this Cabernet has lots to like. Its tannins are smooth and thick, but finely-ground, and the overall balance is right up there. This is a winery to watch. Drink now.

Too oaky, with buttered popcorn and caramelized vanilla flavors dominating. Underneath, you’ll find a nice, crisp wine with pineapple flavors.

Dark for a rosé, and a little too sweet in cherry, raspberry and pomegranate jam to be called dry. Try with a Sunday brunch ham and mushroom soufflé.

With a sweet finish, this wine is filled with polished flavors of pears, pineapples, guavas, nectarines, honey and dusty spices. Crisp acidity provides balance.

Dry, tart in acidity, and whistle-clean, this is a nice apéritif-style wine. It has lemon rind flavors and a brisk finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a big wine, but it shows considerable finesse. Pours inky black, and explodes in mulberry, cassis, coffee and herb flavors that are very dry. The tannins are chewy, suggesting either aging through the decade, or something rib-sticking, like short ribs.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This full-bodied Syrah skirts the boundary of overripe, with some reviewers calling it dense, smooth and supple, while Tasting Director Joe Czerwinski found it thick and Port-like. At nearly 16% alcohol, maybe he has a point. But for lovers of the style, this chocolaty Syrah will hit the mark.

Released at just a little over a year old, this demonstrates the promise of Lake County for Cabernet. It’s a dry, polished and enjoyable wine, with a fine tannin-acid structure and good flavors of blackberries, currants, black cherries and smoky oak.

Too much feline spray in the aroma. A little goes a long way. Too bad, because the citrus and lemongrass flavors are tasty, and the crisp mouthfeel is a delight.

There’s almost nothing here except alcohol, acidity and a drop of citrus. Really a hard wine to find anything nice to say about.
