This Rhone blend is harsh and dry. It has a green, twiggy edge, but also superripe flavors, as if the grapes were unevenly ripened.

This is a very meaty Petite Sirah. It has a sweet, teriaki flavor of beef jerky, over and above the black currants and licorice. Good, but too soft and a bit too sweet.

A Grenache-Syrah blend, with 15% new oak, this Rhône-style wine is effusive in cherry liqueur and chocolate flavors, with a rich earthy, mushroom and tobacco undercurrent. It’s dry and rustic in the mouth. Drink now.

The ’03 was a very good wine. This is less so, probably due to the vintage, which simply baked the life out of the grapes. The cherry and blackberry flavors are a little Porty and hot, although the wine is dry.

This is a new brand for me, and they’re off to a promising start with this dry, minerally Chardonnay. It packs a punch with upfront lemon and lime, passion fruit and pineapple flavors that are pushed forward by great acidity, while oak adds a fine appliqué. This wine is notable for its balance, elegance and sheer deliciousness.

Shows the deep, palate-comforting fruit that Lodi reds usually have, offering a broad array of blackberry, cherry and raspberry flavors that are compounded with spicy, dessert-style notes of gingerbread and coconut macaroon. The acidity is soft, of course, given its origin, but there’s a dry, dusty coat of tannins that gives all that flavor grip and balance.

Chardonnays from this vineyard always are powerful, but this bottling is over the top. It has ultraripe apricot and tangerine flavors, with strong acidity. Seems almost botrytised, with a honeyed intensity, although it’s dry.

Simple and sweet, with sugared tangerine and vanilla flavors, enriched with caramelized oak. The blend is mostly Viognier, with Roussanne and Marsanne.

Light in color and body, with a silky texture and cherry, cola, bacon and peppery spice flavors, this Grenache could be easily mistaken for Pinot Noir. It’s a very nice wine to drink with a steak, lamb chop or pork loin.

This is quite a rich wine, and although it can’t quite overcome Petite Sirah’s rustic character, it is a great example of the variety. Fully dry and full-bodied, with thick tannins, it’s filled with blackberry, black cherry and mocha flavors, with a meaty edge.
