Pink grapefruit, gooseberries and a floral accent mark the attractive bouquet of this winner. Round melon, kiwi and natural spice flavors do a dance on the palate, which also features red currants and more of the grapefruit present in the nose. The finish is lengthy and amply layered, so it goes out the way it comes in: with class.

Boasts textbook gooseberry notes—sort of a cross between pink grapefruit and tangerine—to go along with slightly grassy aromas and flavors. Shows surprising punch on the finish for such an inexpensive Sauvignon.

A strong effort from Shepherd’s Ridge, showing decent complexity—cola, wintergreen, plum, smoke and coffee notes—ample structure and a mouthwatering finish. This is the rare Marlborough Pinot than can match with red meat, like lamb chops or venison—many are just too soft.
