There’s much that is beautiful about this ambitious Pinot Noir. This ’06 is soft and dry and complex in red cherries, red currants, cola and spice flavors, lushly accented with oak. It just wants structure.

Very good for its complexity, although it’s tough and tannic, and the acidity sticks out. The blackberry, currant and cherry flavors are rich and nuanced, but the wine feels hard and sharp. Odds are the lifespan is six years: cellar or decant.

Silky, racy and dry, which is just what you want in a nice Pinot. It offers flamboyant flavors of cherries, red currants, root beer, bacon, sandalwood and peppery spices, with a hint of mocha. Great now, and could develop over the next 4–5 years.

This is an eccentric wine that some will love and some will hate. It has lots of Marlborough-type gooseberries and juniper berry, but also California-style ripe pineapple juice and spearmint candy flavors. The best part is the juicy, mouth-tingling acidity.

Dry and crisp, with pure citrus flavors of Meyer lemon, lime and pink grapefruit. The acidity is strong and mouthwatering. There’s also a potent note of unripe ammonia.
