Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts with penetrating, inviting aromas of cherry cola, blackberry and hard crushed spices, with a lush dose of smoky oak and vanilla. It drinks a bit dense and closed now, with solid tannins and acids hiding the pretty core of cherry fruit. Age through 2004.

Reserve is an unregulated term, so it is unclear what this means at Silvan Ridge. This is a thin, herbal and noticeably earthy wine. There is little in the way of fruit or varietal specificity. But it’s perfectly quaffable.

A curious mix of aromas mix herb, brown sugar and hints of barnyard and leather. The flavors combine all three elements into a wine that may show its best with food.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aromas hint at unusual scents such as rubber and fowl, but in the mouth it’s a straightforward, rather herbal Pinot Noir, with light and quickly fading strawberry and cherry fruit flavors.

This value-priced Oregon Chardonnay gives you plenty of flavor, a forward mix of fruit and oak that tastes like ripe bananas dipped in butterscotch. There’s nothing subtle here, but if those are the flavors you want, look no further; this wine has them in spades.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Warm and peachy, this fruit-bomb of a Viognier will appreciate a good chill. Served at an appropriate temperature, the luscious mix of stone and tropical fruits is set up properly; otherwise it starts to feel a little soft, and there’s a bit too much of a burn in the finish. There’s a hint of a metallic underpinning, giving it a lingering flavor of canned peaches.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There is an odd, piercing edge to the aromas, a mix of acetic acid and pungent herb, with a hint of diesel. Somehow it’s not off-putting, just atypical. The light, tart fruit is a mix of rhubarb and cranberry, very earthy and tasting of dirt and bark in the finish. This could be quite pleasant with a hearty, rustic dish such as beef Bourgogne.

Fairly light and innocuous; you really have to make an effort to draw anything from the nose. The palate is sweet and sugary, especially for Pinot Gris, which should be more dry and snappy. And that sweetness carries onto the finish and all the way out the back door. Not offensive, but overly sweet and thick given the grape and origin.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a crisp, serviceable Pinot Gris, with sharp green-apple and cut pear fruit dominating. It’s got plenty of acid underscoring the fruit, and should work well as an all-purpose wine.

This smells exactly as Viognier should: citrus peel, grapefruit and pineapple fruit, lifted with some high tones, and filling out the palate without ever becoming too soft or flabby. It does get a bit diffuse in the back half; still tasty but not quite as sharp and focused.
