The oak element is strong here—very strong—and one wonders if it will ever fully integrate even with more years of aging in the bottle. There’s not much fruit left and what you do get is ripe and jammy. You can feel the alcohol at the back. Otherwise, the wine is dense and smooth on the palate.

Barolo Vigne dei Fantini offers a brambly note of forest floor and black olive backed by a distinctive note of mesquite wood and barbecue sauce. Sweet spice flavors of clove and nutmeg appear on the finish and the wine is well grounded by firm, silky tannins.

This bold wine from the acclaimed Bussia cru delivers meaty and masculine aromas of blackberry, smoked ham, vanilla bean, cured beef, nutmeg, clove and polished black stone. The thick, rich mouthfeel is irresistible and the wine is long lasting and elegant on the close.

This bold Barolo from the famed Bussia cru opens with ripe fruit aromas of prune and strawberry, followed by a chewy, slightly sweet mouthfeel. But the wine is much more complex than it first appears. Give it time in the glass to release its unique aromas of black licorice and spearmint.
