Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
There is modest fruit and creaminess in the mouth that suggests extra time on the lees. It finishes a trifle hot; doesn’t really live up to the reserve designation.

Tart and lemony, without anything to elevate it above the crowd. Some slight butterfat flavors hint at malolactic fermentation, but it falls flat in the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This fairly plump yet sturdy Chard delivers creamy oak aromatics supported by notes of perfume and bee’s wax. The palate is ample, with clean flavors of pear, lemon and apricot. Lastly, a buttery but welcome taste appears on the long finish. With more expressive fruit, this could be a star. Even as is it’s quite good.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The nose mixes (or tries to mix) disparate scents of herb, bell pepper and sweet, toasted cracker. The wine has an artificial, manipulated flavor-set, with jarring juxtapositions and a flat finish.

Root beer and snow pea aromas—no, that was not a typo. The bing-cherry flavors finish with gritty tannins that will need 2–5 years to integrate. —C.S.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Oddly, Silver Lake’s least expensive Merlot is its best. It’s a solidly made, straight-ahead varietal wine, with a core of black olive and currant, stiff tannins and enough grip to hold up to hearty main meat dishes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A sharp white with thistle-like aromas as well as notes of white pepper and tarragon. The mouthfeel and weight are good, but the flavor profile struggles. It’s dry and forceful, but there isn’t much fruit or charm. A bland finish doesn’t elevate the wine.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lightly chocolaty and herbal, the reserve is marginally fruitier than the regular 2005 Syrah, with the same mix of cherry tobacco and licorice. Tannins are chewy and quite dry.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sharp scents of clove, cherry syrup and tobacco lead into a rough, tart and tannic wine with no particular varietal character.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This well-made, off-dry late harvest Riesling includes small amounts of Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc. The fruit shines here, and it was indeed picked really late, as the stats indicate: 13% residual sugar and 12% alcohol. As with most Washington late harvest wines, the acidity is there to support all that sugar.
