A breakthrough Chardonnay from upstate New York. Aromas of toasted nuts and buttered spiced pears are classic, with flavors of cinnamon, pears and cashews that feel custardy in the mouth. Finishes long, with tangy acids and nutty overtones. Editors’ Choice.

Although the aromas are sweet, oozing with pear nectar, stone fruit, dried spices and apple blossoms, this wine features only 1.5% residual sugar. It’s fairly big for a Finger Lakes Riesling, with a slightly oily texture, and comes across as being close to dry thanks to firm acids on the finish. The only problem with this wine is its limited availability.

Savory on the nose and palate with notes of cooked apples, pears and spice, Silver Thread’s Chardonnay is subdued in style but easy going for everyday enjoyment. A dry, medium bodied wine with a squirt of lemony acidity that brightens the mid-palate.

This off-dry Riesling is redolent of flowers and lemon in the nose, and the lemon freshness continues on the palate. Zippy and slightly sweet, it’s a simple but enjoyable wine that’s perfect for a summertime quaff or everyday enjoyment with spicy cuisine.

Sure, it’s a light hue of red, but one whiff tells you it’s not going to lack for flavor. Strawberries and tart cherries mingle with scents of wet bracken, and a sweet spicy sensation lingers on the finish. Light in body but pretty, with a sense of elegance and harmony. Drink now.

Fresh, crisp minerality—a quality that can take a good wine to great heights in the right proportion—seems to hinder this wine. The lack of fruit and oak balance feels tart and thin.
