Seems slightly hollow, and finishes with some coarse oak, but the fruit flavors of cherries and yellow-fleshed red plums are pretty and accented by a hint of smoke. Quaffable. —J.C.

Loaded with ripe dark fruit, this expansive wine carries a lot of oak but wears it comfortably. Jammy blackberries are graced with leather and chocolate. The mouthfeel is plush and so rich it verges on syrupy. Finishes long, with enough soft tannins to taste good now yet age for another 5–10 years.

This wine feels rustic and curmudgeonly, with mixed cherries, earth, oak and not much fluff. Finishes medium-long, rife with juicy cherry and a dark, lingering oak-soil component.

Very pleasant and drinkable, this is an approachable Semillon that'll win Chard lovers over to the other side. Aromas are minerally, with hints of butter and vanilla. Hay, fresh herb, and yellow fruit flavors are clean, and linger through the finish.

An overt, tropical Chardonnay with oodles of fruit. This is a bit broad and lacking focus despite having hints of quince and a trace of minerality that lend som semblance of structure. Turns a bit sour-citrusy on the finish.

Brightly fruity on the nose, with notes of lemon, anise or pine, and pear nectar. It’s weighty on the palate—thick and almost syrupy—yet the flavors are lemon and beeswax. The long finish is tart and very resinous. This distinctive style of wine may not be for everyone.

Although some Australian Semillons are built to age, this one is immediately accessible, offering stony, minerally scents and flavors that hint of petrol, wet stones and green apples. It's medium-bodied, with a bright finish that manages to be crisp without being sharp or angular. Drink it over the next 2–3 years.
