Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
If it weren’t for the slight lettuce-like aromas and flavors that snake through the wine’s nose and palate, this would be ideal. And even with those hints of green it has good red fruit and vanilla flavors backed by chewy tannins.

Herbal and peppery, with secondary aromas of floral raspberry. Snappy and grassy on the palate, with generic red-fruit flavors at the base. Candied and fairly weak on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Except for some early cheesy, drawn aromas, this is a solid Cabernet for the price. Aromas of leather and earthy red fruit are decent, and the cheeky flavors of cassis and raspberry are good if a little sweet and pedestrian. Not a complicated wine.

Quite smooth and polished. It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with Carmenère and Petit Verdot adding something of value. The wine is snappy, healthy and well balanced. The flavors don’t veer far from the comfortable middle of the road; there’s a tilt toward red berries and plums, with some cassis to sweeten the load.

Not sure what it is that makes this wine a “special reserve” as opposed to regular; maybe it passed through some oak, because there’s thickness and a whiff of vanilla. But overall it’s not that fresh and seems to be fading. There isn’t much precision or forward fruit; instead it’s sort of mealy and indecisive. Past its prime already?

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The bouquet is arguably the best part: earthy berry fruit mixed with tobacco and leather. The palate, meanwhile, is fairly hard and clipped, with short cherry and berrry flavors in front of a fast-moving, tough finish. Not a bad wine but tough on the tongue.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Starts out chunky and mulchy before it finds its stride with plum and roasted berry aromas. The palate has a standard, semirich feel and roasted plum and spice flavors. A bit oaky and resiny on the finish, but perfectly drinkable as inexpensive Cabernet goes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little soft and syrupy on the nose, with vanilla and blackberry aromas. The palate is full but clumsy, with jammy berry flavors and not a whole lot of precision or focus. Fleshy late, and always a bit wayward. Good enough if not put to the test, but among so many Chilean Cabernets it doesn’t distinguish itself.

Sharp aromas mix with softer ones, yielding a conflicted bouquet. The palate is plump as far as feel goes, with pithy flavors, honeyed citrus and lasting green bitterness. A melony wine that has its moments but is too pithy and bitter to make a better impression.

Quite ripe but also sort of flat and syrupy. The nose shows blueberry and licorice, while the saturated palate is creamy thick, with herbal/berry flavors. Both mocha and peppery notes sit on the chewy, borderline gummy finish.
