This is a big, full-bodied Syrah that seems to aim at the Northern Rhône in style. The blackberry, cherry and chocolate flavors have exotic edges of leather, pepper and tobacco, and the wine’s backbone is firmed with thick, but softly ripe, tannins. Showing plenty of class, it’s a wine to watch in future vintages.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cab Franc comprise the blend. The wine is dry and very forward in fruit, with black cherry, raspberry, and smoky, oaky vanilla flavors. It’s delicious and a little one-dimensional, so drink now.

An interesting wine for its moderate alcohol and extreme dryness. Leaner and more structured than a plump Napa Cab, it shows juicy blackberry, currant, mineral and oak flavors that are streamlined and elegant. A bite of alcohol makes this pretty wine balanced and clean through the finish.

It’s so rewarding to find a Cabernet this balanced from Paso, where ripeness is easy but elegance is hard. With a wealth of blackberry and cherry pie filling and mocha flavors finished with a coating of spicy oak, it’s soft and gentle.

I like the ripeness of the fruit, and the way the blackberry cola, coffee and spice flavors play against an edge of leathery, funky grilled beef. The tannins are powerful, so decant and drink it with rich, fatty meats and cheeses.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a blend of Zin, Syrah, Cab Sauvignon and Franc. It’s simple, rustic and slightly sweet. This is a ridiculously high price to pay for what you get.

Super-fruity, with jammy blackberries and cherries plastered with vanilla oak. Simple, but lots of people will like it.
