From the hot hot 2003 vintage, this has a bit more sweet ripe fruit than the 2004s. It’s showing light cranberry/cherry flavors just trickling into LifeSaver candy, and backed with moderate tannins and a green tea astringency. Light/medium-bodied, well-built and good for aging for another six or eight years.

Aromas of white pepper and pear start it off, and it smells snappy and inviting. The palate is all about grapefruit and orange; in a word, it’s citrusy. The finish comes in waves, with notes of stone fruit and licorice. As a whole it’s round and satisfying, but it’s also a tad bit dilute and dull, which is why it rates where it does.

For a wine in this price range, this is showing some seriously green fruit. The nose is all beets and fresh earth, and green flavors of stem and soil continue in the mouth. Has good depth, and may soften up over time. —P.G.

This limited-production Pinot is a puzzler. Right now the wine is hard as a rock and overrun with tough tannins. There are some flavors of sour cherry and red berry poking through, but at this price one wants more.—P.G.

Many Oregon wineries aspire to make Burgundian pinot noir, but few actually do. This classy, elegant offering truly captures the fragrance, seductive texture and feminine grace of good Burgundy. Sexy, tart red fruits, hints of flowers and a light dusting of cocoa and herb keep it interesting through the finish.

The opening of ripe pears and apples seems right on the money, however, the palate is a bit overzealous and spritzy, with sharper than expected orange, grapefruit and lemon flavors. This wine exemplifies the overt, lively style of Pinot Gris, but it’s one-dimensional and lacks subtlety. —M.S.
