A thick and juicy Amarone with rich layers of chocolate, exotic spice, black cherry, blueberry tart and tobacco. It feels dense and rich in the mouth and its natural heft would stand up to sharp cheddar.

Speri’s Ripasso has an added layer of spice, vanilla and other oak-generated aromas that distinguish it. There’s a juicy core of fruit there too: black cherry, plums and white raisin. Drink this wine with meat-filled ravioli or wild mushrooms.

This is A-1 Amarone. It has a classy, traditional prune and chocolate nose, which comes in front of a perfectly pure palate of dried cherry, plum and dark chocolate. The finish answers the challenge, delivering black tea and tannins, but in layer upon airy layer.

This vineyard designate wine straddles a fine line between Old and New World. On the traditional side is a coulis of blackberry fruit (a pergola trellis is used for better grape aeration) and sweet spice. On the modern front are deep oak shadings. The final result is an excellent package and an example of very good winemaking.

Bright and correct with clean berry flavors, this is a perfect red wine to pair with meat appetizers or pâtè. It delivers a thin, watery feel with loads of crisp berry freshness in the mouth.

The nose of this vineyard-designate wine made from partially dried grapes is slightly oak-driven, with aromas of spice and vanilla backed by black fruit preserves and mature berry. It would pair well with roasted meats or aged cheeses.

Sweet and rich, with a big overlay of caramel, cola and burnt sugar. Sweet and gooey as that may sound, it has gorgeous balance and does not taste heavy or candied. Still, it’s overtly ripe, as the cherry and plum flavors sing. Lip-smacking good, and fleshy.

Pitch black and full of asphalt, tar, coffee and meat aromas. The feel right now is a touch raw due to its youth, but as it sizzles and scours it shows masculine, smoky flavors and a lot of bitter chocolate. Comes on with guns blazing and full tannins. Needs several years to mellow out.

This Recioto opens with a beautiful, vibrant ruby color with purple highlights and deep dimension only to segue into typical aromas of bramble, blueberries, blackberry and chopped herbs. It’s got power, sweetness and structure with chewy, tart tannins. Recioto is an ancient wine made with the same blend of grapes that goes into Amarone. Pair this sweet red with dried cinnamon cakes, chocolate-based desserts or a selection of aged cheeses.

Some black raspberries and vanilla on the nose indicate that there is substance to come. The palate is chunky with cherry, plum and berry fruit, while the mouthfeel is dry and full, with buttery notes.
