Blackberry aromas have a Port-like character and a smoky undertone. Big extraction leaves a thick, weighty mouthfeel and the essence of Cabernet’s sweetness. Some mineral, coffee and meat on the lengthy finish. A good mix of finesse and wildness.

The oak in the nose is strong, much like cedar. Beyond that there’s sweet mocha and coffee. The mouth is rich, something akin to plum pie. Even the finish is sweet; it’s also chewy and loaded with black licorice. This wine carries a massive oak underlay and it’s sweet. If these Napa characteristics appeal to you, then by all means go for it.

A beautifully balanced wine with clear and luscious raspberry fruit deepening to black cherry in the midpalate. The finish is long and silky, with layers of flavor.

The vintage was not a good one for Sauvignon Blanc, and St. Supery’s ’07 Sauvignon Blanc is not up there with past bottlings. Although it’s dry and crisp, it’s unripe, with grapefruit and gooseberry flavors that veer too far into that meow factor.

You won’t miss the taste of oak one bit, because this Chard is so rich and crisply stimulating on its own. It floods the palate with pineapple jam, peach pie, green apple butter, vanilla and cinnamon-honey granola flavors that are clean and pure.

Way too strong in feline emissions, that disagreeable scent due to green, unripe pyrazines. If you can get past that, the wine is slightly sweet and citrusy.

On the raisiny sweet side, with a sweet-and-sour taste, this Merlot, from a hot vintage, has been held back for many years, apparently in the hopes it would improve. Unfortunately, it remains a stubbornly unrewarding wine.

With a residual sugar of 7.2%, this is quite a sweet wine, brimming with honey and vanilla flavors. The fruit itself isn’t so impressive, suggesting citrus, apricots and peaches.

The talent at St. Supéry is evident in this lush, balanced Merlot. It has the famously ripe, forward fruit of a great Napa red, but shows the balance, harmony and complexity you expect when you fork over forty bucks. Smooth and polished, this low-production red is gorgeous now, and should hold and soften for another eight years. Available exclusively from the winery.

This is not the best example of unoaked Chard. Without any enriching barrel notes, the wine shows raw, thin fruit, citrusy and green.
