Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Lake County has made a play to become the inexpensive Sauvignon Blanc capital of California, and this wine shows why. Stephen Vincent is a Sonoma négociant who finds wines that have already been made and then buys them to bottle under his brand. This wine is filled with jazzy flavors of ripe figs, white peaches, lime zest and dusty Oriental spices. It’s clean and vibrant with refreshing acidity, and is fully dry.

Lots of rich pineapple, buttered toast, vanilla and cinnamon spice flavors in this Chard. It’s made in an uncomplicated style to appeal to consumers who have made this kind of Chardonnay the most popular wine in America.

This is a pretty good wine for the price. There’s a rustic edge, but the cassis flavors are sweet and savory.

Decent everyday red, if you’re not particularly fussy about what you wash that beef down with. Dry and tannic, the wine has cherry and mint flavors.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Rich in cherry, blackberry, raspberry and herb flavors, this Rhône blend has sweet-and-sour berry-cherry flavors. It’s rich in dry, furry tannins. Needs something big and meaty to soften it, like beef stew.
