It took a while for the sulfur to blow off, but when it did, this was a nice Zin. It’s soft in tannins, but with good acids framing pretty flavors of raspberries and red cherries, and shows all kinds of dusty spices on the dry finish.

Rough around the edges, with earthy tobacco and cherry flavors, this is a big, dry, pretty tannic red wine. Best with a barbecued steak if you’re a little fussy, but not too demanding.

From Domaine St. George, a polished, ripe wine, from a premier growing region. It’s dry and a little rough in texture, with complex flavors of dried cherries and blackberries, and a cleansing espresso bitterness to the finish.

Harsh and burnt, with medicinal, slightly sweet cherry flavors, this disagreeable wine also has rough tannins.

Way too much residual sugar in this wine, to judge by the white-sugary finish. It’s clean and fruity wine, but really should be labeled off-dry or even sweet.

If there’s any fruit in this massively oaked wine, it’s hard to find. Little but char, vanilla and toast hit you, with a sweet dill finish.

There are disturbing aromas and flavors in this wine. It smells vegetal, and tastes very dry and bitter.
