One of the better Sangioveses out there, although not without its problems. Very dry and crisp in acidity, it shows chewy tannins framing flavors of ripe, mashed cherries, sprinkled with black pepper, cocoa powder and anise. Feels gritty and a little obvious, but could mellow over the next few years.

This is quite a brilliant wine. An unusual blend of 90% Roussanne and 10% Viognier, it shows tremendous richness in the array of tangerine, Meyer lemon custard, pineapple tart, buttered toast and caramel cream flavors, yet has a stony minerality that anchors and dries it. Fermented in new oak and aged on the lees, this full-bodied, complex wine can be consumed by itself, or with rich fare, such as lobster or crab.

Peppery and youthful on the nose, this Syrah has good grab in the midpalate, and black plum and berry fruit to recommend it. One taster found it a little on the lean side, with a tart finish.

Favorable comments across the board for this Syrah, with reviewers lauding its ripe, fruit-sweet berry aromas and flavors, and its creamy mouthfeel. Bold, peppery aromas, and a long, lush finish complete a fine package.

Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Plenty of lip-smacking cherry and blueberry flavor here, but also some sharp elbows from tannins, and there’s a streak of sugary sweetness that makes the wine not quite dry.

The vineyard has lots of chalk, hence the name of this Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend. It’s pleasant rather than profound, with sweet cherry and raspberry flavors and an easy tannin-acid mouthfeel. Gentle, easy and silky all the way down.

A rich, extracted Syrah that treads the line between simple lusciousness and complex authority. It’s softly tannic and low in acidity, with pie filling flavors of cherries, raspberries and mocha. Earns extra points for sheer richness. Drink now.

A rich, dramatic and impressive wine. With vital acidity and dryness, it has complex layers of ripe cherries, red licorice, cranberries, pomegranates, mocha and cinnamon. Falls somewhere in texture between Pinot Noir and Merlot, either of which it can substitute for. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is an interesting wine for drinking now as an alternative to a dry, full-bodied red, such as Merlot or Cabernet. It’s spicy and ripe in red currant, licorice, smoked meat, violet and sandalwood flavors that are rich and complex.

Extraordinarily rich, offering massive blackberry and cherry jam, red currant, licorice, balsam, bitter chocolate and red pepper flavors. It’s very tannic, but seems overly soft, and probably best now, so drink up.
