Floral aromas with a touch of citrus lead this assertive Chardonnay. The flavors—vanilla, fresh fruit, spice—are wrapped in a wave of smooth oak. An elegant wine good for pairing with salad and poultry dishes.

From the producer whose labels read like assorted chapters from Melville, this affordable Merlot is good enough, and inexpensive enough, to drink with everything from Tuesday night pizza to Sunday night duck breast medallions. Smooth and mellow with gamy spice and cherry aromas and flavors. Soft finish. Can drink now.

Apricot, melon and peach on the nose lead to a viscous but slightly thin-tasting Chardonnay with some sweetness. Not terribly complex but an enjoyable, everyday drinking wine.
