Very fine and high-toned, a Cabernet that shows real class and pedigree. Entirely drinkable now for its soft, lush tannins and elaborately detailed blackberry, black cherry, anise, carob and cedar flavors that last long through a spicy finish. Should age well through 2015.

When Petite Sirah is at its best, and this one is, it offers incomparable structure and flavors. Nothing quite like it anywhere, with its inky dark color, big, thick tannins and ripe, exuberant flavors of berries, currants, mocha, leather, tobacco, cedar and peppery spices. What’s especially nice about this bottling is the dryness and moderate alcohol. A superior wine that should age for the better part of a decade.

Dryness and herba notes mark this wine. Despite some rich oak influences, it comes down on the mineral and sage side, only vaguely suggesting fruitier notes of pineapples and peaches.

Made in a heavier, full-bodied style, this Merlot is very dry and fairly tannic. It’s an earthy wine, with truffle, tobacco and herb flavors and deeper blue and black fruit. Drink now.

Shows brisk acidity for this warmish appellation, with upfront, pineapple custard, peach tart and apricot cobbler flavors wrapped in a honeyed mouthfeel. Just when you think it’s a simple Chard, it reveals all kinds of layers.

This interestingly complex Zin shows lots of forward cherry, blueberry, black raspberry and cocoa fruit, sprinkled with peppery spices, and is fully dry. Shows lots of classy balance in the way the sweet tannins, acidity and subtle oak interplay with the fruit.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Somewhat sharp and tartly aggressive now in jammy fruit, with raspberry, cherry, wintergreen mint and cola flavors, sweetened with smoky wood notes. Doe not seem like an ager, so drink now with very rich meats, oils and cheeses to soften the hardness.

Plush and sweet on the nose. On the palate, it’s got great density (though it doesn’t taste sweet). Flavors are integrated, with charry, dark plum, licorice, toast and blackberry notes, all couched in silky smooth, elegant tannins.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a beautiful, classic 100% varietal Cabernet Sauvignon, but it’s also immature in hard tannins, which is a telltale mark of this mountain appellation. The wine is bone dry and complex, with waves of blackberries, black currants, cassis, minerals and cedar. It clearly wants time in the cellar. Best after 2013.
