By far the best of Suncé’s current roster of Pinots for its ripe black cherry jam, gingersnap and root beer flavors. The texture is lively with crisp, citrusy acidity and easy tannins.

A nice, well-crafted Cab that pleases on several levels. It’s got good varietal character, from the blackberry and currant flavors accented with oak to the soft, sweet tannins. The wine needs more depth and concentration, though, and finishes thin.

Here’s a modest Cab from an out-of-the-way appellation. It has pleasant blackberry and cherry flavors that are a bit thin, and the wine finishes with a tannic scour.

Simple, with basic varietal identity, namely, the silky smooth tannins and crisp acidity that underlie cola and watered-down raspberry flavors. My sample bottle was a little fizzy.

Good example of cool Central Coast Pinot, with its polished, jammy flavors of cherry and raspberry and dusty spices, complexed with smoky oak. Bright acidity and gentle tannins make for an easy drink. Light, but a pretty good value.

Unusually concentrated and intense for a Monterey Merlot; a big, rich wine that assaults the palate with flavors of blackcurrant, plum, chocolate, dried herbs and smoked oak. The tannins are as smooth and plush as anything up north. Would score higher if not for a certain thinness in the middle palate, but that’s a result of the vintage.
