Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Showing excellent varietal character, this light, textural, delicately spicy white wine is finished at just 12.8% alcohol, yet remains quite dry. There is a pleasing saltiness to the mouthfeel, almost like an Albariño, and the finish is crisp and nicely detailed.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
It has a delicacy rarely seen in domestic Pinots, with scents of roses and chocolate, and flavors of wild mountain raspberries and tangy cranberry. Acids bring a tartness to the mouth, and the tannins are ripe and proportionate, yet substantial. They suggest that this young wine could have a surprisingly long cellar life.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A stunning wine, this could be the poster child for the future of Washington Mourvèdre. The aromas are a dappled and seductive mix of raspberries, moist earth, baking spices, mocha and an intriguing suggestion of wet cement. Marvelous definition, length and character. Give it plenty of breathing time and it gains mass and complexity.

A superb follow-up to the winery’s 2003 Milbrandt, it’s the same 40/60 blend from Clifton and Sundance, both located in Washington’s new Wahluke Slope AVA. A penetrating nose of cherries, violets, blueberries and black olives leads into a wine that masks its power with finesse. Licorice, tar and smoke wrap around the bright raspberry fruit core, with just a whiff of white pepper. Great winemaking, and a price point more wineries should emulate.

Syncline Syrah - 2004

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This young fruit starts off with scents of huckleberries and violets, underscored with whiffs of clay and pepper. The minerality elevates it above the norm; the fruit is well-ripened but still tart and tight, acids are plentiful, and no new oak was used (or needed). This is impeccable winemaking, extracting every nuance from the grapes. 170 cases produced.

Ambitiously styled, with a thick, voluptuous mouthfeel and lavish notes of smoke, toast and chocolate. If it sounds oaky, it is, but it still tastes good, with enough blackberry fruit to stand up to the wood. Finishes with a softly dusty note and ripe tannins.

The blend is 94% Syrah, 5% Grenache and 1% Viognier. New oak is apparent, displaying roasted coffee, bitter chocolate and vanilla cream flavors. Very smooth.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A gorgeous bottle, dry and persistent, showing pretty strawberry/cherry fruit, some bread dough yeastiness, and a long, smooth finish. This is made as a saignée, with the pressed juice going into the winery’s Subduction Red. Gorgeous effort.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweet, spicy, almost pungent with meaty, bright berry scents. It shows a beautiful nose, fragrant and seductive, spiced with white pepper, blueberry and violets. It’s clean and lifted, with everything—alcohol included—in balance.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A sturdy style, with thick, not heavy flavors of strawberry and pomegranate and cranberry. An interesting style, neither Oregonian nor Burgundian, but big and broad, with somewhat rustic but flavorful fruit. Perfumed, clean and lightly spicy.
