Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is an hommage to the owning family’s white Rhône wine from France. It’s a crisp, minerally wine, firm and clean and dry, with flavors of dried citrus fruits, orange peel, honeysuckle flower, vanilla and toast. Shows real elegance and sophistication.

The first of the highly anticipated ’05s are starting to appear, and to judge from this wine, west side Paso Rhônes will be winners. The wine benefited from a cool vintage, allowing the Mourvèdre, Grenache and Counoise long hang time, yet avoiding overly ripe fruit. Dark, fully dry, racy in acidity and full-bodied for a rosé, this complex blush has an almost Pinot Noir-like weight.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
It has the density of body and texture that big, ageable red wines have, but the stuffing, not to mention the acidity, doesn’t seem to be there. It’s hard to separate out what you know of the ambitions of this winery, which aims to produce Chateâuneuf-style wine in California. This is a fascinating work in progress. A blend of Mourvèdre, Grenache, Syrah and Counoise.

A very engaging Rhône blend made for immediate enjoyment. Doesn’t try to hide its warm-climate terroir, with a soft texture framing jammy-sweet black raspberry, cherry, red currant, root beer and mocha flavors. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This Mourvedre-dominated wine doesn’t have the super-hung meat, gamy aroma that plagued previous vintages. Instead, it offers complex aromas of ripe stone fruits and berries, with a suggestion of leather, herbs and smoky oak. It’s soft and creamy, but the tannins kick in on the finish. Drinkable now, and could improve dramatically through the decade.

A bit raw and earthy, with berry-cherry and cocoa flavors and soft, gentle tannins. Easy to drink, and there’s a nice spicy finish.

A fabulous white Rhone blend of enormous complexity and charm. Fills the mouth with butterscotch, creme brulee, pineapple, stony mineral, vanilla, impossibly ripe white peach and creamy hazelnut flavors, and as sweet as that sounds, the wine is dry and crisp. The greatest Esprit Blanc ever. Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A little brother of the Esprit Blanc, and while it’s nowhere as rich, it’s a noble wine of considerable nuance. Apricot, peach, fig, vanilla and toast flavors mingle in a creamy texture that finishes long and spicy.

A junior version of the winery’s Esprit bottling, although this one’s based on Grenache and is much richer and almost sweeter in cherry liqueur. It’s a soft, simple wine, but beguiling. You might almost call it seductive.

Just delicious, a wine you can’t stop drinking. The cherry-berry and spice flavors are full-bodied and dry, while the mouthfeel is just so pretty, all silk and crisp acidity. Drink this Mourvedre, Grenache and Counoise blend soon for its youthful beauty.
