Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This already mature wine starts off with aromas of herbs and beet greens, then quickly turns leathery with exposure to air. Flavors of leather, dried fruit and decay are a bit lean and astringent. Although the fruit seems to be departing rather precipitously, there’s sufficient complexity to merit interest.

Has Tamar Ridge found the Holy Grail of high-quality, affordable Pinot Noir? Let’s see if a few more vintages reach these heights, because the 2009 represents a terrific value. It shows real Pinot character in its silky tannins, complex herb-and-cherry notes and elegant finish.

A classically-styled Australian Riesling, Tamar Ridge's 2004 offers plenty of mineral and lime scents, wrapped around a lean, crisp, racy structure and steely flavors of green apples and lime. Long and piquant on the finish, yet surprisingly elegant at the same time. Drink now, although it should easily hold another five years or so.

Shows true cool-climate Pinot Noir character in its delicate cherry and herbal-viny aromas, slightly crisp, angular mouthfeel and tart tangy finish. It’s a good introduction to Tasmanian Pinot at a user-friendly price.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A full, plump style with 14% alcohol, but one that carries it well, balanced by spicy, peppery flavors and perhaps even a touch of residual sugar. Aromas of wet stones, peach blossom and apple-pear-lime fruit presage the ripely fruity flavors of apples, pears and melon. Finishes long. Drinkable now, although might develop more interesting spice nuances in another few years.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
An extra year has added some depth here. Lemon and apricot fruit are layered over almonds and macadamia on the nose while a hint of jasmine adds interest to the palate. The medium finish offers up an intriguing nuttiness. Best before 2012.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Tamar Ridge's 2003 Pinot Noir is on the oaky side, with aromas of toast and caramel overshadowing the slightly mushroomy black-cherry fruit. The mouthfeel is round and the tannins soft, this just needs slightly more concentrated fruit and a lighter hand with the oak.

Similar to some New Zealand versions of Sauvignon BLanc, this wine features a powerful scent of sweet green peas alongside riper notes of passion fruit and stone fruit. It's on the full side, with 14% alcohol, but carries it well. The veggie note isn't a favorite here, but the wine comes together nicely, finishing with lingering honey and citrus flavors. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Shows a much lighter touch with the oak than Tamar Ridge's 2003 Pinot Noir, and to the wine's benefit. Dusty plum scents are touched with slightly floral, herbal notes, while the texture is properly Pinot--silky and lingering on the finish. Good value.

Wonderfully botrytized dessert wine, with dried apricot and orange marmalade scents and grace notes of dried spices. It's moderately rich and viscous, perhaps just a bit low in acidity but delicious just the same, combining flavors of honey, apricots and citrus on a finish that's not overly sweet. Drink now.
