Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Deep purple in hue, with saturated dark-fruit aromas along with pinches of cola and creamy oak. Fairly concentrated for a wine of this stature; for less than $10 you get vanilla and chocolate accents atop youthful, bouncy blackberry. The mouthfeel is plump, and there’s a toasted coconut flavor on the finish.

Tapiz disappeared from the U.S. market for several years, but now it’s back. This wine is good in its controlled approach. The nose is smoky and leathery, with solid berry fruit aromas. The palate has proper ripeness along with cherry, cassis and plum flavors. Lastly, a mocha blast carries the upright finish. Drink now.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
After a hiatus, the Tapiz brand is back in the U.S. market. This Malbec throws off ample oak, maple and charred aromas, but the palate is sweet and ripe, with plum and berry fruit overriding any aggressive barrel characteristics. With molasses and vanilla on the finish, it’s saturated, creamy and shows well as a whole.

Not very fruity, with gritty cherry flavors and a hard, edgy, almost sour profile. Does nothing for the reputation of Merlot in Argentina. Overpriced, too.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Fully roasted, leathery and meaty on the nose, but there’s also coffee, mocha and late-coming berry fruit. The palate is saturated, oily and pure, with a good mouthfeel and flavors of dark berry fruit and chocolate. Toasty and lightly burnt on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smoky and deep, with hickory and concentrated black fruit on the nose. The palate packs punch, and the flavors of blackberry, black cherry and chocolate are friendly, meaty and dark. Fairly tannic and big for a Mendoza Syrah. Not complex but seriously dark and full.

Heavily toasted oak dominates a nose that also features some tropical fruit, mostly bananas. Oak in the form of burnt toast and butter are the leading flavors. Thick-bodied and heavy in the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
A neutral nose is the result of oak and mild apple and banana aromas offsetting each other. The palate is fairly forward, with apple, pear and banana flavors. Balance is achieved courtesy of healthy fruit, light oak and good acidity. Don’t expect miracles and it should do the trick.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Aromas of grape bubble gum set the stage. The palate is warm and expansive. But it’s entirely one-dimensional and ultimately quite basic. Most drinkers should find it pleasant if they’re not seeking something spectacular.

Clean, classic Cabernet aromas do a good job of inviting you in. Cassis, vanilla and herbs mix nicely. The deep-purple color accurately announces the big blackberry flavor. Underneath is some pleasant oak. It finishes mildly hot, but overall it’s smooth.
