This bold, spicy wine will appeal to those who love modern reds with thick concentration and lingering oak-driven flavors. Black cherry, prune and ripe blueberry do come into view, but the protagonist here is the oak. The wine has chewy tannins, good length on the finish and would pair with grilled meats or aged cheeses.

The evident oak element in this hearty Brunello needs time to integrate because the spice, toasted nut, clove and crushed peppercorn aromas are still strong. But the mouthfeel is soft, plush and shows great potential.

This is a difficult wine to score. Its feminine nose of rose, lavender soap, bee’s wax, potpourri and scented candle is elegant and very compelling. But you’d expect more heft or foundation in the mouth to weigh down those ethereal aromatics.

Elegant and refined with small aromatic pulses of cherry, violets and white mushroom, this wine is very true to the Sangiovese variety. The mouthfeel is light and thin and there’s a truly feminine nature to this expression of Brunello.

Here’s an inky colored and deeply concentrated 50-50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot that delivers rock solid structure and intensely dark aromas of blackberry pie, rum cake, plum, prune, clove, leather, cola, and pipe tobacco. You’ll need to pair this wine with succulent beef to break up those tight tannins.
