Way too ripe and soft for balance, this Cab is almost Porty. It has simple, sugary flavors of blackberry and cherry pastries.

This is a good wine, but it provides ammunition for those who suggest that Napa Valley isn’t the best place for Chardonnay. Dry, with an earthy edge to the fruit, and lots of oak.

Sleek and minerally, a taut young Chard with high acidity and a steely spine. But there’s a wealth of peach, pear, pineapple and vanilla flavor that bursts through the acids and spreads deliciously across the tongue. Tasty, rewarding and balanced.

Unbalanced, with weedy, grassy flavors side by side with sweet spearmint chewing gum and pineapple LifeSaver candy. Crisp acidity gives it the sweet-sour taste of certain Chinese sauces.

You’ll find a wine that’s tight and shut down right now. It has strong acids and even some tannins, with citrusy flavors that have a hint of pear. Could use more generosity.
