Starts with plum, berry and light wood aromas. The flavor profile is pure red fruit, mostly plum, with nice acidity keeping things propped up. A bit of excess tannin on the finish roughs it up a bit, but with food that will not be an issue. Improves with airing.

This is a flat, broad style of Chianti Classico (with 10% Cabernet) that delivers thick notes of ripe berry, plum, prune, molasses, leather and spice. The tannins are tight and the wine has great length. It has the grit and staying power to pair with succulent cuts of beef or barbecued meat.

Full and aromatic, yet it holds the line on sweetness and oak flavor, something many value-priced Chardonnays fail to do. This wine is all about pear, peach and apple fruit, a modestly rich texture and a light, toasty finish. There’s a solid core to this puppy, and it tastes every bit like a real white wine, not liquid candy.

This is a ripe and chewy wine with syrupy aromas of mature cherry, blackberry, cured meat and pipe tobacco (there’s a 10% component of Cabernet Sauvignon that adds density and thickness to the Sangiovese). The wine is smooth and velvety with a very vibrant and bright feel on the close.

Made from a clonal selection of the estate’s best Cabernet Sauvignon, this cheerful red is concentrated and extracted with a seductively sweet-smelling nose. It is by no means simple: Background aromas of tar, root beer, espresso, chopped mint and bright berry speak to its Tuscan roots. It’s still a bit thick and chewy in the mouth, so drink it after 2012 and give it time to open.

Strawberry jam comes to mind and this is no surprise considering the sweltering-hot vintage. The wine tastes overripe in the mouth but also imparts a sour note.
