It’s unfortunate that only 56 cases of this wine were imported, so be sure to snag it when you see it. Intense and powerful on the nose, with attractive forest, licorice, tea leaves and menthol adding complexity to the small red berries and plum skins. The velvety texture and firm structure lead nicely into the mocha-flavored finish, with flecks of white pepper gleaming through on the very end.

Thelema’s trademark mintiness is a star here, as are the rich, savory flavors of black currant, coffee and spice on the palate. Poised but giving, the wine has an ageable quality and will be delicious with roast lamb or beef.

You should know what you’re getting yourself into here, as the name definitely doesn’t lie. So minty and herbaceous it’s almost hard to believe, and it all mingles with notes of crushed violets and black currant leaf as well as a solid fruit core of cassis and black plum skins. It’s firm and tight in the mouth but approachable after a little breathing time.

Stellenbosch, like Napa Valley, can produce ripely flavored whites like this. Packed with character, from citrus, peach and lime flavors to the energizing acidity and fresh fruity nose. Finishes with solid length and intensity.

Usually a good wine, but this vintage, the wine seemed to lose steam quickly. Mild, sweet aromas of caramel and butter lead to more of the same in the mouth. Nicely structured, with firm acidity backing medium weight, but the flavors don’t quite match up, finishing with a note of corn.

Although this wine deals some mealy corn aromas, it is still solid. Nicely bal anced, with moderate acid pairing a bit of sweetness, the mouth is flush with peach, papaya and vanilla, tempered with spicy oak. All the cards fall into place with a long, harmonious finish. Drink over the next three years.

Smoked meat, herbs and mint on the nose lead into a melange of soft, elegant and complex flavors of black currant and mocha. The wine has structure but is subtle. Drink now or hold for 4–5 years.

This wine has a minerally, citric, peppery character that’s both fresh and distinctive. Lemon/lime aromas mingle with toasty oak on the nose, followed by integrated flavors of vanilla, toast and spice. A clean but round Chardonnay; great with oysters or lobster.
