Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Opens with soft black fruit aromas, and later orange peel and floral notes enter the picture. This is a ripe style of wine with body and heft. Blackberry, sweet black plum, chocolate and brown sugar control the flavor profile, and while it’s sweet and arguably confected, overall it’s a solid blend of two hearty grapes.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Smoky, spicy and a bit jammy on the nose; this Bonarda loads up on black fruits and floral characteristics. It’s a good, honest interpretation of the grape, and it’s a solid bet for pizza and burgers. A bit syrupy in the mouth and on the finish, with a candied lushness that makes it soft in the long run.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and rubbery on the nose, with a slight pickle-and-olive accent but mostly black fruit aromas. Juicy and also stout in terms of feel, with blackberry and herbal flavors. Finishes with a touch of buttery oak, chocolate and toast.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Loud, oily and almost caustic on the nose, with a chemical burn. The palate is better due to its tangy citric flavors, but it’s still jumbled and oily, and the finish leaves a burnt-tasting residue.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Big and purple, with ripe aromas of black fruits and bacon. The mouth is filling and full, with oaky blackberry, coffee and mildly roasted flavors. Turns more lush and soft on the finish, which is long and tastes of fig paste and prunes. Gets it done for the most part.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Sweet and savory aromas of hickory, BBQ and plum jam are nice, while the body is structured and full. The flavors follow the nose, meaning there’s a savory, roasted quality to the wine but also jammy raspberry fruit notes. Chewy and a bit marinated, but it’s quite good for the price.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Light, airy, tropical and very nice for an under-$10 Argentine Chardonnay. The nose is nice and easy, while the flavors of orange, melon and lychee are tropical but seem right for the wine’s body and acidity. Easygoing as they come, with a hint of sweetness on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Opens with sweet berry aromas that are inviting yet generic. The palate has plenty of acidity, making this Merlot food-friendly but racy on its own. Flavors of black cherry and dark plums are juicy, and there’s a touch of spice and chocolate late.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Mostly it’s clean and neutral smelling, but there is a bit of candle wax and peach to the nose as well. The palate is fresh and not too weighty, with melon, sweet apple and honeyed flavors. A solid wine, especially for the price range and origin. Don’t expect miracles and it should be pleasing.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Dark and full-bodied, with a big bouquet of coconut, char and blackberry. The palate is thick and chunky, and that seems right given the wine’s sweet black-fruit and chocolate flavors. Add in some oak, baking spice and mocha and you’ve got a solid, tasty, generous wine.
