Sturdily built on a chewy bed of tannins, but this impressively dark, full-bodied wine struggles to express its fruit. Plum, dark chocolate and earth flavors pick up a hint of black pepper on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a joy to smell, filled with expansive notes of toasted coconut, ripe berries and vanilla, but also some darker, meatier scents. Unfortunately, the palate can’t quite match the excitement level—the flavors are a bit simple and fruit-driven, while the mouthfeel could use more lushness and depth. It’s still a good effort and a worthy companion to steak or roasts.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
The 2003 bottling was big, vibrant and flavorful. This one is less so; its juicy berry fruit wearing a thick veneer of oak that hasn’t yet integrated. Surely meant for midterm aging, but still it doesn’t show the verve that the previous vintage did. Maybe this bottling is in a dumb phase?

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
Full, round and soft, this is an immediately approachable and likeable Shiraz, with clean, slightly jammy blackberry fruit and hints of chocolate and mint. The combination of bold flavors and early accessibility should make this a steakhouse staple.

Chewy on the palate, with vibrant plum, blueberry and blackberry flavors that persist through the finish. Its aromas are similarly juicy and flavorful: plum and blackberry, and a dusting of bread flour. A pretty, concentrated, feminine-style Shiraz. 900 cases made, with 300 coming to the U.S.

Mocha and coffee aromas preface a palate full of dark, earthy-briary character. Medium-bodied; closes with tangy, tealike tannins.

All basket pressed, with 50-50 French and American oak. Aromas are meaty, with some toast and wheat biscuit thrown in. Plum and tart black cherry fruit on the palate show hints of mineral and herb; good length on the finish.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is Tintara's first varietal Grenache to be released in the U.S., and what a splash it'll make. Lifted cherry and violet aromas have a light wheat-biscuit accent. The palate follows suit with the same violet and black cherry notes. It's fresh and vibrant, with a chalky-mineral finish. "It's really hard to get people to notice it," laments winemaker Rob Mann of the variety. With this wine, Rob, your troubles are over.

Expert NoteJanuary 12, 2012
This is a big, slightly alcoholic Cabernet, but one that seems to lack a bit for structure and definition. The tannins are soft and the acidity seems low, giving this wine a creamy texture to go along with flavors of cassis and dried spices. Drink now.

very strong. good smell though. a good wine to make sangria with. This 2005 Tintara Cab Sauv was hand crafted using time honored wine making practices, such as open-top fermentation and basket pressing. These timeless techniques produce the ripe and generous flavours for which McLaren Vale Cabernet Saug is renowned including black currants, chocolate and spice.
