Here’s a thickly extracted and dense wine with a deep crimson color accented by brownish hues. It exhibits aromas of dried fruit, raisins, prunes, smoked jerky and ham. The wine is so rich and potent, it tastes chewy and brothy on the close. Imported by Rare Wine Company.

With 17.5% alcohol, this is a big, brawny Amarone that should be paired with an appropriately dense and wintery meat dish (like beef or game stew). The vineyard-designate wine is sweet and very succulent with loads of ripe and candied fruit flavors on the chewy, soft finish.

Lovers of traditional Amarone can appreciate a pinch of volatility (it sometimes appears as apple or cider) because it can add vibrancy, buoyancy and life to a wine when applied in measured doses. This is a good example of a wine enhanced by pungent apple that will appeal to those who like this style. Tommaso Bussola is a winemaking legend in these parts and is a leader in Valpolicella tradition.

This sweet Recioto opens with thick, inky blackness and jammy aromas of black fruit, plum and prune. You can taste some oak-driven flavors of spice and smoke. The wine ends with a blast of astringent, ripe tannins.

There’s a muddled element to the nose here that recalls old wood or spice and in general, this wine lacks sharpness and focus. It tastes very sweet and offers high alcohol that keeps the palate ripping clean.
